2010 SourisMulti Sport Relay
22nd Souris Multi Sport Relay

The Souris Multi-Sport Relay Committee is in the planning stages of organizing the 22nd annual relay scheduled for Saturday, July 17, 2010. Last year over 50 participants ran, cycled and canoed. Event organizers hope to have more participants this year.

The event features Male, Female, Mixed and Youth Divisions, 4, 3, 2 member teams plus Iron Man, Iron Woman & the option to run only. The Glen Deveau Memorial Trophy will be presented to the winning local team.
As well this year they will introduce a new divison - the team family.

The relay begins at the Souris Striders Ski Lodge on the Souris Line Road, Route 305. The first leg is an 8.5 K run partly on the Confederation Trail. The route then switches to canoe/kayak on the Souris River and after a 4 K paddle on the river hands over to cyclists who cycle 25 K up the New Zealand Road, across the north side to the Souris Line Road back to the Striders Ski Lodge.

This is followed by a free lunch and award presentations.

Avid runner and committee member Sara Deveau says the relay isn’t designed to be only an athletic event but more a "fun" event. The organizing committee hopes that both Island and visiting families and friends will participate more for "healthy enjoyment and fun" rather than just for a competition.
